EWEC: Lawmaker Urged FG to Walk the Talk

The Federal Government has been urged to fully implement all signed international pacts, particularly the Every Woman Every Child (EWEC) global strategy and Family Planning (FP) 2020.
The Deputy Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Health Services, Usman Muhammad stated this in Abuja, at the validation meeting for the motion tracker aimed at fulfilling the commitments of Every Woman Every Child and Family planning.
Muhammad said Government needs to have instrument to track its commitments to help improve the health indices in the country, which he says is still very poor.
Muhammad however noted that the commitments could only be achieved through coordinated action across multiple sectors.
He however lamented that the funding and budgetary release of the health sector has not been sufficient enough to improve the country’s health indices.
Speaking on the significance of the Motion Tracker, the Coordinator and Founder, Africa Health Budget Network, Aminu Magashi Garba says the project is aimed at supporting the federal and state government in tracking their progress made.
He further noted that Tracker will help monitored government budgetary releases, expenditure and the positive impact the funds are having on the health sector.
He added that, the Advocacy and accountability manager, Samasha Medical Foundation, Cornelia Asiimwe also disclosed that the Motion Tracker is being implemented in about eight countries of the world, which will improve on transparency and accountability in project monitoring.
The Every Woman Every Child EWEC, is the movement aims to intensify national and international commitment and action by governments, the United Nations, multilaterals, the private sector and civil society to ensure that women, children and adolescents are at the heart of development. It mobilizes coordinated efforts across sectors to deliver on the promises of a sustainable future for all.
