The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris has been call upon to buckle-up his loin in addressing unending armed banditry across the country, particularly the resurgence kidnappings activities ravaging the North-west part of the country.

This call to action was declared by the Regional Director, Association for Good Governance Network (WA), AGGN, Ambassador Hussaini Coomasie, who is also the current Deputy National Coordinator, Buhari Campaign Org.(BCO) North-West in Abuja on Wednesday.

Coomassie through a statement made available to newsmen by his Media Aide, laments the incessant banditry especially the menace of kidnappers who have overtaken some parts of the country and the kid-glove with which the Nigerian Police is handling situations at the moment.

Known for his astute positions in support of the progress so far recorded by President Buhari’s administration,

particularly in the areas of security, Coomassie has since call on the IGP Idris to explore his vast experience in dislodging the menace of armed banditry in the country. While lend his expertise on strategies to adopt where the existing methods fails, he insists all hands must be on deck to compliments the efforts of President Buhari in ensuring security of lives and property, especially in the troubled areas of the country.

His statement reads in parts:

“The recent increase in criminal activities across some states in the Northwest geopolitical zone varies; from kidnapping to cattle rustling, armed banditry and communal clashes in Kaduna state.”

“These crimes gradually started few years back, but over the last one year have snowballed into another major insecurity in the region.”

“The regular approach in handling the state of insecurity is obviously not yielding desire results as far as situations in the Northwest States are concern, especially in Kaduna, Katsina and Zamfara states.”

“The named states are currently under siege by de-facto governments of kidnappers, bandits etc, who unleashes terror, pains, tears and sorrow on the people.”

“But due to the new Acting Inspector General of Police’s wide knowledge as a combatant and in crime fighting, with intimidating recognitions and awards within and outside Nigeria, many Nigerians believe his appointment was never a mistake and are hopeful of a new dawn. They see his appointment as a departure from the gory past of insecurity among other challenges anywhere in Nigeria”

“As a matter of urgency and that of national interest, our expectations are that the new IGP should hit the ground running in addressing these menace, but with the reoccurring ways of this banditry activities especially kidnapping along the Abuja – Kaduna road, it is evidence that the approach so far adopted is yielding little to subdue the crises, and the worrisome is that regular travelers along our highways have becomes victims of circumstances.”

governance difficult.”

“The most singular responsibility of any government is the protection of lives and properties in accordance to the provisions of its mandate, which is the yardstick for which citizens enjoys the essence of governance.”

“In democratic governance or delegated duties across the three tiers of government, the combine security architectures and mandate of the Nigeria Police force are solely responsible for the task of internal security provisions.”

“The new acting IGP should urgently begin to recalibrate the operational strategies in design or implementations to

ensure results as soon as possible”

“No matter the nature of such strategies, it takes operational efficiency on delivery to make the “strategy contents” doable and sustainable.”

“This operational strategies recalibration should cut across every segment in the “security process” of the Police Force, which includes Manpower, Surveillance Equipments, Funding and Special welfare packages.”

“Also, existing designs should be re-jigged to reflect situational effect of the moments.
