JUST IN: Electrocution Claims Several Inmates at Ikoyi Prison
Several inmates have been reportedly electrocuted by an electric power accident that occurred on Monday at the Ikoyi Prison also known as Alagbon, a major correctional facility in the heart of Lagos.
Ikoyi Prison is one of Nigeria’s oldest and largest correctional facilities, holding thousands of inmates.
According to Francis Enobore, a chief spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service, who confirmed the accident to newsmen, said several inmates were said to have been killed or injured when electric cables at the prison went up in flames late Monday morning.
It was gathered that the incident happened on Monday morning. Many others are said to be battling for their lives in a hospital.
Enobore said details were still being gathered before information about the accident could be passed to the public.
