By Omosola Timothy Akingboye, Nigeria
The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) has named Spindletop Charities as the beneficiary for OTC 2019.
Since 1966, Spindletop has contributed more than USD 22 million to aid programs supporting at-risk youth. This has been possible through hosting annual events attended by oil and gas industry executives and young professionals. Spindletop Charities has been making a positive impact for youth, mostly in the Greater Houston Area, which include successful programs targeting child abuse prevention, pediatric medical research, drug and alcohol abuse prevention and rehabilitation, education and scholarships, school safety, therapeutic services and after-school programs, and family health.
“Spindletop Charities has made its mark on the Greater Houston Community for 50 plus years. Through the generosity of the oil and gas industry, organizations benefiting from Spindletop support continue to make a profound impact in the lives of at-risk children served,” explains Constance White, Executive Director, Spindletop Charities.
“On behalf of the many Spindletop volunteers and participants, thank you to the Offshore Technology Conference 2019 for recognizing and honoring our efforts. We look forward to sharing this award with our youth and community.” she continues.
The Golden Anniversary Gala Dinner will take place Sunday, 5 May 2019 at the Houston Marriott Marquis. The 2019 event recognizes distinguished industry achievements, raises funds for a worthy cause, and provides an excellent opportunity for industry leaders to network with colleagues from around the world.
Because of the support of industry-leading companies, more than USD 1.7 million has been donated to charitable organizations over the previous eight years. Past recipients are Medical Bridges, Offshore Energy Center, Engineers without Borders, Gulf of Mexico Foundation and the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) and the Petroleum Equipment & Services Association (PESA) Energy Education Center for the benefit of the Energy Institute High School, Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas, Oilfield Helping Hands and the Young Women’s College Preparatory Academy in Houston.
“The Executive Advisory Board selected this year’s charity because of its commitment to finding charities in our community that would directly benefit from the impact of a donation from OTC, based on their connections to our industry and communities for which we work and live,” said Wafik Beydoun, Chairman, OTC Board of Directors.
“The OTC Board of Directors looks forward to working directly with Spindletop Charities on choosing which organizations will receive a percentage of the donation and seeing what work will be done and impact made with those funds,” Beydoun continues.
