The International Human Rights Commission has aligned itself with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), to tackle the challenge of gender-based violence in the country.

The alignment became manifested during the 16days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence in Nigeria at the instance of NAPTIP recently in Abuja.

Gender-Based Violence has become a growing challenge in Nigeria with its attendant increase in economic hardship and insecurity in the country, such as forced and early marriages, physical, mental and sexual assault on a woman.

Women on record are more targets of the horrific crime associated with SGBV globally and Nigeria is no exception.

It is however reported that nearly 3 in 10 Nigerian women have experienced physical violence by age 15 (NDHS 2013).

Meanwhile, sexual violence against men has equally become another issue too many in recent times, owing to its recurrent decimal in the context of war and conflict, which must be addressed head-on as a renewed human rights violation with more devastating mental health consequences both against the victims and their families who mostly are women and children that bears the brunt of the loss and incapacitation of their breadwinners
